TAV Construction (TAV İnsaat) has undertaken construction projects totaling 2,350,000 square meters, in Turkey and overseas.
Founded in 1997 for the construction of the İstanbul Atatürk Airport, TAV Tepe Akfen Yatırım İnşaat ve İşletme AŞ (TAV İnşaat) was spun off from TAV Airports Holding on October 10, 2003. The Company has become a brand name for airport construction projects and is engaged in various construction activities, primarily airport construction, both in Turkey and overseas.
TAV İnşaat is becoming a leading player in the world airport construction sector. The Company executes its overseas operations via branch offices; it currently has 2,083 employees and six branch offices in Dubai, Qatar, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Bahrain.
TAV İnşaat has gained a significant business volume thanks to its branch offices as well as the business partnerships it has established with the large global corporations within the construction industry. The Company’s contemporary projects that make effective use of advanced technology reflect the culture and dynamism of the region in which the project is undertaken. As of year-end 2007, total value of the ongoing projects of the Company and its project partners reached US$ 6 billion. The share of TAV İnşaat in these projects stands at US$ 2.5 billion.
Having undertaken construction projects totaling 2,350,000 square meters to date as the contractor, TAV İnşaat also provides technical maintenance and repair services, an area with severely limited supply around the world. TAV İnşaat has a privileged position compared to its rivals; its advanced technology is a major characteristic that distinguishes the Company from any other ordinary construction firm.
The Company also provides consulting services for airport infrastructure, an ever-growing area of need throughout the world.
TAV İnşaat has a large volume of business in the Gulf Region and is also active in the construction of smart buildings, which require the use of advanced technology. The Company established its first branch office in Dubai after being awarded the tender for the maintenance and repair hangar built for Emirates A380 airplanes.
The Company attracted significant attention in 2004 when it was awarded the Cairo Airport International Terminal construction project, a joint project of the Egyptian Government and the World Bank. This was followed by large and prestigious domestic and international projects such as the construction of Ankara Esenboğa, Tbilisi, Batumi and Izmir Airports. Commencing operation with the steel roof construction project, the Dubai branch office, unlike other TAV İnşaat branch offices, is also engaged in projects other than airport construction. In 2006, the Company, jointly with its partner Taisei, assumed the construction project of the New Doha Airport (NDIA), which had a project value of US$ 2.1 billion. This great accomplishment was followed by Tunisia’s Enfidha and Libya’s Tripoli airports. As of year-end 2007, TAV İnşaat had completed four skyscraper projects as well.
In the years ahead, the aviation sector will grow at an even faster rate and the need for new airports will increase significantly around the world. Taking into consideration the growth potential of the sector in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, in addition to Turkey and with new market opportunities, the Company aims to use the TAV brand to take a share of the larger projects.
