Following a resolution of the board of directors taken on June 25, 1997, Akfen Holding was restructured Aksel Turizm Yatırımları ve İşletmecilik A.Ş that was established on June 25, 1997 for the purpose of undertaking investments in domestic tourism sector. Akfen Holding was transformed Aksel Turizm Yatırımları A.Ş into Akfen Real Estate Investment Trust with the CMB's approval on July 14,2006.
- AKFEN REIT is a unique real estate investment trust which focuses on a hotel chain network with international standards in Turkey and Russia& Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The hotel properties, that will be developed by Akfen REIT, will be managed by Accor with the operational excellence of the world's top-tier operator under globally recognized brands through long lease agreements.
- In November 2007, Goldman Sachs acquired a stake (%45) in Akfen REIT and became its financial partner.
