Akfen Holding is establishing a “Akfen 100th Year Memorial Forest” with 100,000 trees in Çanakkale to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic
Aimed at contributing to a more sustainable future and natural habitat with its implemented projects, Akfen Holding has initiated a significant project to contribute to Turkey’s green heritage. The first saplings of the “Akfen 100th Year Memorial Forest” in Çanakkale, consisting of 100,000 trees, have been planted with the participation of all companies under the Akfen umbrella.
This forest, named the Akfen 100th Year Memorial Forest, will consist of a total of 100,000 Scots pine and Anatolian black pine trees to be planted in the Merkez Yukarıokçular and Çanakalan locations of Çanakkale. Supported by the companies under the Akfen umbrella, including Akfen Holding, Akfen Construction, Akfen Renewable Energy, Akfen REIT, Akfen Environment and Water, Akfen Hospital Services, and Akfen Tourism, the forest aims to increase the forest land in the region by approximately 1 million square meters.
It is estimated that the forest, once established, will produce enough oxygen annually to sustain 5,000 people (3,000 tons) and reduce landslides by 350 times. Aimed at preserving the vital balance of nature, Akfen’s memorial forest project aims to create new habitats for fauna and contribute to wildlife presence. Additionally, it will take significant steps towards transferring endemic plant species to new vegetations in the region.
