TİKAV and Akfen Renewable Energy Complete the ‘Digital Footprint’ Awareness Project Empowering Women in Rural Areas

3 min

The Human Resources, Education, and Health Foundation of Turkey (TİKAV), established by Akfen Holding, has completed the “Digital Footprint” project, providing education to women and families living in 27 rural regions across 18 provinces of Turkey where Akfen Renewable Energy operates its power plants.

Focusing on the effective and responsible use of digital platforms throughout 2024, the “Digital Footprint” project reached approximately 2,500 participants through 24 training sessions. The project raised awareness among women and families in rural areas about potential legal, social, physiological, and psychological challenges stemming from the unconscious use of digital platforms.

TİKAV, known for its social responsibility projects aimed at supporting various segments of society, carried out the “Digital Footprint” project with financial support from Akfen Renewable Energy. The initiative focused on educating women living near solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants in rural areas about navigating the digital world responsibly.

The year-long project addressed the responsible use of digital platforms and potential risks, including cybercrimes, psychological and physical impacts, and sociocultural issues. Training sessions at 27 locations operated by Akfen Renewable Energy aimed to mitigate these challenges and foster societal awareness about the complexities of the digital age.

PROJECT REACHED 2,500 PEOPLE IN 24 LOCATIONS ACROSS 18 PROVINCES IN TURKEY

Seminars under the “Digital Footprint” Project were planned throughout 2024 to cover various regions across Turkey. Designed for women aged 18 and above, the program was implemented in numerous locations, including:

  • Amasya GES (Kutu Village, Amasya)
  • Sırma HES (Bozdoğan, Aydın)
  • Denizli RES (Karacasu, Aydın)
  • Üçpınar RES & Kocalar RES (Lapseki, Çanakkale)
  • Hasanoba RES (İntepe Village, Çanakkale)
    …and many more.
Through these efforts, the project reached approximately 2,500 participants, empowering them with knowledge about the digital world.

KIRÇUVAL: “WE TAKE PRIDE IN RAISING AWARENESS AND LEADING THIS TRANSFORMATION”

Highlighting how digital platforms enable women in rural areas to access education, job opportunities, healthcare services, and community participation, TİKAV Chairwoman Hülya Kırçuval expressed her pride in fostering awareness and being a pioneer in this transformation.

Kırçuval stated:

“We are proud to lead this transformation and raise awareness as TİKAV. Supporting women in realizing their potential and empowering them in the digital world is invaluable to us. We believe that the progress of society is only possible through the empowerment of women.”
